The last no-nonsense, no special fx sci-fi movie I really enjoyed was 'The Man From Earth. Really really hoping this is gonna be amazing. Producing content without that big cash and HR takes passion and commitment to a whole new level. I commend you for finishing this project and just by the glimpse of it. really really looking forward to it. Interesting! Intriguing! Though Provoking! More than the usual cinema offers. Bravo Team COSMOS. Cant wait I love Kristen. 8:19 ouch. John is such an amazing actor. A movie like this is just not for him. It's not that he can't fit into comedy (desi boyz was a good movie) but these kinda things will ruin his image.

Seberg (Benedict Andrews) is an affair drama which is an interpretation of a real story. Combining the lead character's professional and personal roles, it explores her personal and relational lives.
Kristen Stewart gives a slightly contrite performance and she seems to have been once again typecast. Thankfully, the supporting cast are there with good performances to make up for the lack of personal connection with the main character. Unfortunately the excellent costume design is not enough to carry the film and will likely be overlooked.
Speaking after a screening at TIFF, the director explained the film is really a story of voyeurism; the addiction and danger of the watcher and watched. Even so, the excitement of surveillance is lost on an emotional contrived performance.

Yet another all mighty flop by Kirsten Stewart, she was completely wrong for the part and spends the entire film making stupid faces and putting in a one dimensional performance... how many times is Hollywood going to cast her in a film way beyond her ability, even Charlie's angels was utter rubbish and that's about her level. While we say goodbye to another year, the race for the Oscars is going full throttle as the following week starts to reveal the industry's real ideas about the best films of 2019. Let's take a good look at the important dates at the calendar coming up: Friday, January 3 – American Society of Cinematographers Nominations Sunday, January 5 – Golden Globes Monday, January 6 – WGA (Writers Guild) Nominations Tuesday, January 7 – BAFTA Nominations Also on Tuesday, January 7 – DGA (Directors Guild) Nominations Another thing on Tuesday, January 7 – PGA (Producers Guild) Nominations Oh, I almost forgot, ALSO on Tuesday, January 7 - The Oscar nomination voting closes Now, some context for the non-awards nerds. When we want to see ahead of time which films are the favourites in the awards race, we tend to look at the precedents of the powerful trifecta of members of the Academy that is made up of the PGA (producers), the DGA (directors), and the WGA (writers), as well as the SAGs, because some of its actor members are part of the largest branch of voters. If a film has the support of all or most of these guilds ( and the support of all five boroughs), a Best Picture nomination is guaranteed. Also, we have to pay attention to what the British members of the Academy have to say with the BAFTA nominations, which always bring forward some clear views on what's getting in. And finally, the Golden Globes. Sure, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a joke made up of dozens of foreign journalists that vote according to which famous people they can get to show up to their parties, but there is still some influence in this ceremony. If you or your movie can win at the Golden Globes, you have a shot at the best kind of publicity in these times: a memorable (and viral) speech. Let's take a look at a good example from a couple of months ago. When we were discussing the previous Best Actress race, it was a one-on-one race between the unrecognized Wife herself, Glenn Close, and the breakout popstar-turned-actress, Lady Gaga. While Close beat Gaga for the Drama Actress award during the Globes, the Comedy Actress award went to the underdog favourite Olivia Colman, who didn't have time to campaign because she was busy filming The Crown. Her speech was the only big campaign moment in an awards season that otherwise was dominated by the other two, but it was memorable enough to keep her in the race. And when she won, it wasn't a total shock. Also, let's not forget that last year, the Globes sadly also predicted the two unlikely big winners of the Oscars, Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody (barf). But enough about the Ricky Gervais show. Let's see how the contenders are doing. -1917: Sam Mendes' WW1 one-take action drama has just started its limited release, and while the early numbers are promising before its wide release on January 10, the important thing is that people are aware of this movie as an impressive technical contender. It doesn't matter that it didn't gather SAG nominations, because both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes showered the movie with nods, and people are very aware of Mendes' directing, Roger Deakins' complicated cinematography, and Thomas Newman's emotional score. If we add up this awareness with the technical nods that it will bag (let's be honest, we already know that this movie will win both Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing, because it's loud), we have a Best Picture nomination coming right up. -A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: While the chances for almost anything else have faded away for Marielle Heller's take on the power of Mr. Rogers, it looks like this movie could finally end Tom Hanks' curse that has affected him after Cast Away. He has secured nods for the Critics Choice, the Golden Globes and the SAGs, so everything looks like he is set in stone for an Oscar nod after almost two decades. But the past has taught us that anything could happen that derails his shot. -Bombshell: The critics are mixed on this movie, and the box office has been a little bit disappointing, but the Fox News expose by Jay Roach still has one ace up its sleeve, and it's that its a performance movie. Both the Golden Globes and the SAGs rewarded Charlize Theron's turn as Megyn Kelly and Margot Robbie's composite victim of sexual harassment, with the second of those two awardfests also nominating Nicole Kidman's portrayal of Gretchen Carlson, as well as the whole ensemble cast. While it's hard to see the movie being a financial hit (it's hard to make back a 32 million dollar budget with a movie that republicans won't see because it criticizes their news source, while democrats won't see it because it's better to see the End of Days than a movie with Megyn Kelly as the hero), multiple Oscar nominations (Theron, Robbie, the make-up) are guaranteed. And who knows, because in the next few days Charlize could even steal Renee Zellweger's thunder. -Cats: Oh, poor Cats. It has become the punchline of the Internet, it's gonna lose at the very least 71 million dollars, and it even lost its best shot at an Oscar. While the unfinished, unpatched VFX of Tom Hooper's unforgettable take on Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical somehow got shortlisted for the Oscars (YOU COULD SEE JUDI DENCH'S FREAKING WEDDING RING, AND THEY STILL PUT IT BEFORE AD ASTRA, WTF), a different fate happened to "Beautiful Ghosts", ALW and Taylor Swift's original song written almost exclusively for awards. It's very likely that this movie doesn't get nominated at all, to which I say that we drown our sorrows with a glass of MIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLKKKKKKK. -Dark Waters: What happens when a muted, dark movie by Todd Haynes crashes at the last minute in a rushed award season after skipping every single festival? A failed wide expansion at the box office and zero award precedents. Better luck next time, Mark Ruffalo. -Dolemite Is My Name: Eddie Murphy still holds on to the Best Actor race, and he still has a shot, as you could check with his nominations for both the Critics Choice and the Golden Globes. While he didn't get to the SAGs, he still got a great campaigning spot when he showed up to host the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live, which, if you haven't seen it, also was the best SNL episode in years. Even if he doesn't get nominated for an Oscar, you can be sure that he will win an Emmy next year, because he was so unbelievably funny again. -Ford v Ferrari: James Mangold's ultimate dad movie is making a place for itself in the awards season because of two factors. One is obviously the technical side, which comes in handy into the narrative of the throwback to the adult dramas about manly men who beat the odds and built a future. On the other hand, Christian Bale has been surprisingly planting a flag all over the Best Actor precursors, showing up in both the Golden Globes and the SAGs. People like to nominate Bale when he shifts from chubby to skinny, it's a fact. Let's see if this leads him and the movie towards Oscar night. -Harriet: Cynthia Erivo has been hitting every necessary step, with nominations for Best Actress in the Critics Choice, the Golden Globes and the SAGs. But her status could be in danger, because of another black actress on the rise (yes, I know, it's fucked up that we already know that two black actresses won't get in the same category). Even then, if she doesn't get Best Actress, she still has a shot for Best Original Song, because "Stand Up", the track that she co-wrote for the Kasi Lemmons biopic, has been shortlisted for that category. -Honey Boy: The Shia LaBeouf comeback has to keep building itself, because this movie has been ignored by the big awards, and also the audience. Kudos to Alma Har'el for calling out the industry's bullshit towards female-directed movies during award season, though. -Hustlers: Speaking of, Lorene Scafaria's stripper caper hasn't been recognized so far outside of Jennifer Lopez's supporting performance, which by this point is guaranteed to get nominated for an Oscar. At least this movie has the luxury of a long life thanks to its big box office success and the rewards of time. -Jojo Rabbit: While Taika Waititi's WW2 dramedy didn't make a big splash with critics or audiences, the industry has been kind to Jojo, with Best Picture nominations in the Critics Choice and the Golden Globes, as well as a Best Ensemble nod at the SAGs (which is their equivalent to BP). Another funny thing that happened with the SAG nominations is that Scarlett Johansson got an unexpected second nomination thanks to her supporting turn in this movie, which could also repeat itself during the Oscars. If we add up Adapted Screenplay, Johansson's possible second nod, and the below-the-line nods, we have a recipe for a Best Picture nomination. All thanks to a movie that's both edgy enough to get noticed, and safe enough to court old Academy members and apolitical people. -Joker: Todd Phillips' take on the Clown Prince of Crime is still making waves, courting Best Picture nods in the Critics Choice and the Golden Globes. Of course, Joaquin Phoenix is a lock in every Best Actor category of every award show, so now we have to wait and see if his winning streak with the industry starts to grow, because the critics had another man in mind during their awards. -Judy: We've been talking about it for months, she has been nominated for every single Best Actress prize in the horizon, and next Sunday we see if the sweep begins for Renee Zellweger. But there's also a chance that the overlong frontrunner effect takes over, and people start looking for other performances. "Yes, Renee is Judy, we know, but have you seen how Charlize becomes Megyn? " seems to be the talk of the town during the last few weeks, and it doesn't help that the critics pointed towards other contender. The "person becomes another person" can be a double-edged sword. -Just Mercy: Just when we thought that this movie was out, Jamie Foxx surprises with a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the SAGs. Now it's a good time to mention the category and how, while Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Tom Hanks seem like locks, the fifth spot is an unsolved mystery. Foxx is the only shot left for Dustin Cretton's legal drama based on real events, and he's still campaigning to get in that hole. -Knives Out: It must feel good to be Rian Johnson this week. On one hand, the Star Wars sequel that backtracked and criticized most of the movie that you made is disappointing in both reviews and box office. On the other hand, your critically acclaimed original whodunnit just crossed 200 million dollars worldwide. And while Benoit Blanc keeps making bank, the movie has also been getting love from the Golden Globes, which gave it nods for Best Musical or Comedy, as well as nods for Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas. Rian Johnson's chances for a Best Original Screenplay nomination are growing, and the WGA coupled with a possible PGA nomination could even lead to a Best Picture spot at the Oscars. -Little Women: Boy, did this movie’s trajectory prove that nothing’s guaranteed in the race. Both the Globes and the SAGs ignored Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the classic novel that most people misquote thanks to Moe, and there’s been some controversy that both helps and hinders the writer/director. First, people rallied around Gerwig after being snubbed everywhere outside of the Critics Choice, with the Golden Globes being rightfully questioned because of its gender bias against female-directed stories. But then, some other people questioned why, in a year with great films by Mati Diop, Lulu Wang, Celine Sciamma, Lorene Scafaria, Jennifer Kent and more, all the support went to the white NY director. While Gerwig’s stock will drop if she keeps making movies starring white people (yeah, I know, that debate is for another time), she can rest behind the support of the audiences, which flocked during Christmas for a 29 million dollar opening weekend. If the movie has legs, it could have a chance for certain categories, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score for Alexandre Desplat. Other nods (like Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan, Best Supporting Actress for Florence Pugh, and Best Picture) are up in the air. -Marriage Story: Moving to the other half of Film Twitter’s favorite couple, Noah Baumbach’s divorce dramedy went through all the highs and lows of being in the spotlight after being nominated for every top award and releasing on Netflix. After all the initial praise and chatter, something happened: the backlash. Faster than you could make a meme about Adam Driver punching a wall, it began. Suddenly, from one day to the other, you had Joe Schmoe commenting on a tweet of a clip of the argument scene, saying that he “could have done better acting than that unrealistic scene”, or Barry Shitpeas complaining about how the kid was annoying. We have to consider the fact that the Netflix release is a brand new world for Oscar contenders (Roma didn’t suffer this, I think, because most people saw that it was a Mexican period drama in black and white and just said “pass”), as we saw a few weeks before with The Irishman. Still, Adam Driver, ScarJo and Laura Dern are locks, as well as Noah’s original screenplay. But the “Is that it? ” factor could prove fatal in the next weeks. -Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: It’s kinda bittersweet to think that Quentin Tarantino’s closest shot to the Oscar is really moving forward because it appeals to the old “power of da moviesh” crowd. Anyways, next week we’ll see how the industry starts to reward the love letter to the ‘60s in Tinsel Town, because the coast is clear for the movie to win Best Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes, and Leo must be already rehearsing his Best Actor speech. The SAGs also showered Leo, Brad and the ensemble with nods, so that could be a decisive step going forward if people haven’t forgotten about the July release. -Pain and Glory: While everybody talks about Adam Driver vs. Joaquin Phoenix, Antonio Banderas has been carefully building support for his masterful turn in Pedro Almodóvar’s self-reflective drama. Antonio won Best Actor with both the New York and Los Angeles critics (by the way, the only two cities with critics organizations that really have influence, because this year every freakin’ town in America now had a critics group trying to get attention with their announcements), and also bagged nods for the Critics Choice and the Golden Globes for Drama. While Banderas is in a quiet third place in the Best Actor race and the film is guaranteed to get into the Best International Film categories, it remains to be seen if Pedro’s original screenplay gets nommed. We can’t look forward to the WGAs to clear this up, because this film is excluded from being nominated due to the fact that Almodóvar is also not a member (other films excluded include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Farewell). -Parasite: The Bong Hive keeps rising, and it’s undeniable that Bong Joon-ho’s class warfare satire will be a big player in the Best Picture conversation. It has dominated every Best Foreign Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director nomination, and the critics in both NY and LA awarded it, with LAFCA giving it Best Picture. The movie has passed the 20 million dollar benchmark in the US, which made it enter in the Top 10 of the highest grossing foreign films in the country’s history (worldwide, it’s about to pass 130 millions). And while some people compared it to Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma to say that it would run out of fuel without Netflix money, the shock of all shocks happened when Parasite got nominated for Best Ensemble at the SAGs. To put that in context, it’s the second time that a foreign movie got that nomination. The previous one? Life is Beautiful, that ended up with a bunch of Oscar nods (including Best Picture), and gave Roberto Benigni a Best Actor win that we still don’t know if it’s delightful or just plain annoying. It’s clear that the average Academy member likes Parasite better than Roma, and it’s obvious why: it’s more entertaining and accessible, and while the story is rooted in Korean culture, the takedown of capitalism makes it have a global perspective about issues that affect everybody. Now, we have to see if Bong can jump over Tarantino and Scorsese in the next weeks. -Richard Jewell: Well, Clint happened. After a last minute release that had the advantage of old Academy members saving a spot for The Man With No Name, the biopic about the sad tale of the security guard falsely accused of being a bomber opened to just positive reviews, and then suffered a shockingly low opening weekend of 4. 7 million dollars, becoming the worst wide opening of Eastwood’s career (and making things more painful, the movie cost 45 millions). Why did this happen? We can point fingers to the big controversy regarding Olivia Wilde’s portrayal of journalist Kathy Scruggs, who sadly passed away before this movie accused her of being a succubus who traded sex for false tips that ruined Jewell’s life. It didn’t help that Olivia Wilde’s excuses and screenwriter Billy Ray’s conspiracy claims came out to clear nothing. In reality, I believe that what happened has a few more factors. First things first, this movie didn’t star movie draw Clint Eastwood, it starred Paul Walter Hauser, a guy who’s barely known for playing supporting dumb stooges in recent dramedies and Cobra Kai. Second of all, while Clint had success with recent real life stories like Sully (which, again, starred movie star Tom Hanks), Richard Jewell asks people to remember one of the big American news stories from… 1996. And then, finally, we can say that this movie made left-leaning people stay at home between Clint’s attitude and the Kathy Scruggs controversy, while right-leaning people didn’t get the kick out of “owning the libs” that would have been buying tickets for this. Now, the only shot that Jewell has is a far chance for Kathy Bates to get a Best Supporting Actress nomination, but only the Golden Globes back that up. -Rocketman: We all expected the Golden Globe nominations for the Elton John biopic, Taron Egerton's performance and its original song "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" (that has been shortlisted for the Oscars). But it was a pleasant surprise to see Egerton between the five people nominated for Best Actor at the SAGs, and it seems that his campaigning could pay off if he upsets Leo DiCaprio at the Globes. -The Farewell: If there’s a movie that could end up with either several celebrations or absolutely nothing on Oscar nominations morning, it’s the Lulu Wang dramedy based on her family. While Awkwafina has been nominated for Best Actress in both the Golden Globes (which also gave a nod for Best Foreign Language Film, because of dumb rules) and the Critics Choice, the SAGs ignored her, which is concerning in a category where the only people that feel safe are white actresses. Also, Zhao Shuzhen has been ignored by most of the industry awards, so her status is also shaky. Going forward, it looks like Awkwafina has a clear win ahead of her in the Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy category in the Globes, but the HFPA could very easily go “HPFA mode” (which means, some random bullshit like giving the award to Cate Blanchett for Where’d You Go, Bernadette? ). -The Irishman: After all the memes and the debate about the length of Martin Scorsese’s last gangster epic, the film has established somewhat of a frontrunner status by being nominated for every single awards show and obviously winning Best Film with NYFCC. Furthermore, both Joe Pesci (a critics darling) and Al Pacino seem like locks for Best Supporting Actor, and Marty and Thelma Schoonmaker are circling the top of Best Director and Best Editing, respectively. But then, there’s a question mark: Robert De Niro. Up until a few weeks ago, he seemed like a lock for Best Actor, but then he missed the Globes. And after that, he missed the SAGs. Sure, the SAGs are also awarding him with a Lifetime Achievement prize during the ceremony, so he’ll still campaign there, but something’s off and could cause chaos in the Best Actor category. It is what it is. -The Lighthouse: It seems more and more likely that the only Oscar nomination for Robert Eggers’ cabin fever nightmare will go towards Jarin Blaschske’s cinematography, because Willem Dafoe’s “supporting” turn wasn’t recognized by the Golden Globes or the SAGs. Dammit, I wanted the Dafoe streak to keep going. -The Report: Hey, Annette Bening got a Golden Globe nomination! That's likely going to be the only thing that most people remember about this movie that is waiting for you right now in Amazon, sadly. -The Two Popes: Those silly popes, they’re eatin’ da pizza and watching fútbol. Yes, the papal dramedy by Fernando Meirelles is out to the world on Netflix, and we see why old people like this movie. However, the industry is mixed on the awards for this flick, because only the Golden Globes showered the whole movie, with nods to the film, Jonathan Pryce, Anthony Hopkins and modern Mephisto himself, screenwriter Anthony McCarten. It remains to be seen if this tickles the old Academy’s taste, but it’s just outside of the big categories, waiting to strike. -Uncut Gems: The Sandman is back on the big screen, and he’s still a draw. During the wide release of his first theatrical live action movie since Pixels (ugh), Adam Sandler helped the Safdie bros’ new thriller to reach an 18 million dollars 5-day opening weekend, which is a record high opening for distributor A24. Even though Sandler didn’t get love from the Globes or the SAGs, he still is an underdog choice that got the support of the critics (and Critics Choice nods). Now that he has box office to back that up, he still has a small shot. Meanwhile, all of us suckers that live away from the US have to wait to January 31st, when Netflix releases this movie worldwide. -Us: The efforts by Lupita Nyong'o to position herself in the Best Actress race have been working, because her double performance in Jordan Peele's thriller have been recognized by both the critics awards (she got the Best Actress award of the NYFCC, and the runner-up spot for LAFCA) and the SAGs. She is the dark horse candidate in the category, and I'm personally rooting for her. -Waves: Trey Edward Shults' family drama got shut out of every major award this season, and it disappointed at the box office, so unless the new class in the Academy surprises us with Sterling K. Brown or Taylor Russell in the supporting categories, this is it for the A24 release. Technical(ly) contenders: Ad Astra, Avengers: Endgame, Downton Abbey, The Lighthouse. Check the pulse: Just Mercy. This had Oscar buzz: Seberg, The Laundromat, The Goldfinch, Lucy in the Sky, Motherless Brooklyn, The Aeronauts, The Report, Cats, Queen and Slim, Dark Waters, Waves, The King, Honey Boy. Closing question: Will Portrait of a Lady on Fire surprise us in the morning of Oscar nominations?

Big budget style trailer done on the cheap and looks it. Nothing happens in the trailer other than a car speeding. HD720p!! It is sometimes hard to pinpoint where exactly films fail, the cinematography wasn't bad and you can definitely see that Kristen Stewart tried, but everything else about this film was below mediocre. Characters were one dimensional and lacked any depth, plot development, from the very moment the two main characters meet and then meet again, was abrupt and unbelievable. The other main characters - the good FBI agent vs. the bad one, were just as shallow. Not to mention the wives, whose role never went anywhere and might have as well not been in this film at all.
In the end, it simply wasn't interesting to watch and that is something no amount of blank long gazes and gratuitous nudity can fix.
If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and watch 'The Lives of Others' a 2006 German film that shares a similar theme but actually does it justice.
